Why are The Blue Mountains important?

  • Socially, the Blue Mountains has a unique village based identity arising out of our 27 separate communities spread from Lapstone to Mount Wilson.
  • Historically, the Blue Mountains has been home to the original inhabitants of Australia for tens of thousands of years. It also has great heritage value in the history of European settlement.
  • Geographically, the Blue Mountains is an area of shallow and fragile soils and stunning rock formations dating back hundreds of millions of years
  • Ecologically the Blue Mountains contains numerous examples of rare and endangered fauna and flora.
  • Aesthetically, the Blue Mountains is one of the most beautiful places on earth - a fact recognised by its World Heritage Listing.
